The Catholic community in Anguilla started with just a handful of Catholics. The first recorded baptism took place in a home in 1948. In the early 1950′s, when there were about a dozen Catholics, a small wooden church, called Holy Rosary, was built by Father Thomas Grace, on the border of the Wallblake Estate Property. He lived in a small two room house nearby
St. Gerard’s Church in Anguilla is beloved by parishioners and visitors alike. As our Church, it is the focal point of God’s presence with us. As a building, it is a tourist attraction. Our resident community has grown (207 % from 1992-2001 according to the census figures) and the number of visitors coming to Mass on Sunday keeps increasing with the result that there is a pressing need for a larger church.
